Before we go any further, I need to make proper introductions. Allow me to introduce my partner in crime, Big Jake, the Golden Retriever. Ol’ Jake will be 11 years-old in May and, like me, he is getting a little gray around the edges and we both seem to groan and grunt a little when getting up or down. But there are still days he thinks he’s a puppy, but that’s just part of being a Golden.
Like any other Golden, there’s nary a person he didn’t think was his new best friend, but he really is an excellent judge of character and we’ll know immediately if he doesn’t like you. He doesn’t say much, but when he does there is good reason.
Jake has been with me through thick and thin over the last decade. He is truly man’s best friend. He likes nothing more than a good hike, unless it’s a roadtrip to a good hike. On the duck hunt to North Dakota this fall he spent the entire four days in his kennel in the truck, and when we got home got into the cab because he wanted to go again. He was also pleased by the purchase of the Pro-V last spring, the more open layout versus the old Blue Fin allows him more access to the water, wind, birds, and fish. I think he wishes there was a gull season!
